Geodesign Studio 2019

Nakseang valley locates at the edge of Yongin and Seongnam, along the 10km long Dongmak stream. The Dongmak stream plays an important role as a green infrastructure. Moreover, it is an important ecological corridor providing habitats for diverse and wild environment. The valley consists of heterogenous landscapes, showing different chracteristics of land use pattern. The upper valley remains as a natural area due to steep topography. Moving towards the west, the landscape of the valley changes to small agricultural towns, coexisting with mosaics of single-family housing type of suburban developments. In the middle of the valley, there is lake Nakseang, previously used as a reservoir. The beautiful landscape of the lake attracted many luxury restaurants and cafes nearby. Further to the west, the valley meets with urban area where high-rise residential development. Korean population is decreasing. The population decline offers both a great risk and opportunity in facing with global climate change. The is called Nakseng Valley Region, located at 20km from south of Seoul adjacent to the Bundang new town district. The site has good natural resources while facing with pressure of development. UOS studied the area as one team and divided into 5 teams to work on different planning issues. The individual projects focused on 5 topics: P1) Ecological housing develop-ment, P2) Sustainable community planning, P3) Renovation of high-density downtown area, P4) Arboretum and ecological res-toration, P5) Cleaning water through blue-infrastructure
