Renewal of the art of the garden

A maze is one of the oldest puzzles in human history. From a simple drawing to a complicated structure, various types of maze have been developed for amusement in different cultures. A maze garden invented for amusement and joy took a special position in the garden history. [Maze of Senses] reinterprets the long tradition of a maze garden into the contemporary concept for a playful garden stimulating various senses that have been neglected these days. The garden consists of three bracket shaped layers. The repetition of mirrored brackets gives a strong and simple geometric form the garden while imposing a clear logic for a maze appropriate for children’s play. The first layer is of plants with diverse colors and fragrances. The second and the third layers are made from colorful strings hung underneath the folly structure. The center of the garden is occupied by colored poles stuck out from the roof of the structure. The end of poles is decorated with bird shaped objects or bells that can attract people passing by. Different from typical maze garden walls of the maze is made from bundles of strings so that people can pass through them. The impressive combination of colors is the most powerful element of the garden, which attracts visitors into the maze. However, the vision is not the only sense dominating the garden. Fragrances of herbs and plants, sounds of wind bells, and textures of string veils make people encourage other senses to fully enjoy the maze garden. Different form traditional maze, walls of the maze is made from bundles of strings so that people can pass through them. The wall of strings and various elements in the garden encourage children to create their own ways to play in the garden. The garden also allows children who cannot see and hear to experience the garden in different ways, since the most important sense in the garden is the spatial sense.
